From June 2016 through January 2017, the Memorial Church undertook a much-needed six-month renovation. The renovation of the 84-year-old building focused on the installation of a new climate control system and improving access for people with disabilities. The work also created new offices for clergy and staff, as well as group meeting spaces for students in the lower level. The ultimate goal of the project was to create a comfortable, accessible and effective space of grace year-round in Harvard Yard.
The Sanctuary and Appleton Chapel re-opened with the start of Spring Term 2017. The ground level of the church will open officially to students on March 20, 2017. Several reopening celebrations are planned in April. For more information, please visit memorialchurch.harvard.edu/renovation.
