Smith Campus Center Roof Project/Cambridge Trust

Harvard University Real Estate (HRE) has engaged a contractor to replace the Smith Campus Center (SCC) roof section located directly over Cambridge Trust. The contractor is scheduled to mobilize on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, and project completion is targeted for the end of July/early August 2022.

Cambridge Trust, including the bank’s ATMs, will be fully accessible throughout the duration of the project.

Project Schedule:

  • The work will take place Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Some Saturday work may be necessary.

Construction Impacts:

  • To ensure the safety of the bank’s employees and customers, and the general public, scaffolding and an overhead protection system (8’ high and 7’ wide) with temporary lighting will be built around perimeter of Cambridge Trust. The contractor will be on site building this system on Wednesday, June 1, through Friday, June 3.
  • Site set up will also include the erection a stair tower for access to the roof, which will be located on the Holyoke Street side of the building.
  • The contractor will endeavor to sequence the roof work so they are conducting the more disruptive work early in the morning between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to minimize inconvenience to the building’s occupants.
  • The project will generate intermittent noise during project work hours for the duration of the work due to the presence of a work crew and the use of construction equipment and power tools required to remove the existing roof, replace the roof, and install a skylight.
  • Deliveries will made via Holyoke Street. Trucks will park in designated loading zones on Holyoke Street and materials will be delivered to the job site via the stair tower location.
