Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) Utility Enabling Work Project Updates

Week of November 22, 2021

  • The contractor is working in the area of the I-90 Interchange at Exit 131 during the day shift this week and expects to be demobilized by the end of November.

 

Overnight ramp closure on I-90 westbound off-ramp (Exit 131 - Allston/Brighton) will be in place starting at 11pm on November 17, 2021

On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, the I-90 westbound off-ramp at Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) will be closed overnight so permanent pavement markings can be placed on the ramp as part of the ongoing utility work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston. Traffic will be detoured to the Cambridge/Somerville fork where vehicles will take a left onto Cambridge Street at the first traffic light. Vehicles exiting I-90 eastbound at Exit 131 will follow the same detour.

This ramp closure and detour will last from 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, to 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021. All durations of the work are subject to change based upon weather and unforeseen conditions.

 

 

Utility Work on I-90 On and Off-Ramps @ Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) in the City of Boston - Night ramp closures will be in place on November 8 and November 9 

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will continue its utility work on the I-90 on-ramp and off-ramp at exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) in Boston during the week of November 8, 2021.

On Monday, November 8, the I-90 westbound off-ramp at Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) will be closed for paving from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. as part of the ongoing utility work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston. Traffic will be detoured to the Cambridge/Somerville fork where vehicles will take a left onto Cambridge Street at the first traffic light. Vehicles exiting I-90 eastbound at Exit 131 will follow the same detour.

On Tuesday, November 9, the I-90 on-ramp (Allston/Brighton) at Cambridge Street will be closed for paving from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Detour signage will direct vehicles to take a left onto Soldiers Field Road followed by a left on Western Avenue and North Harvard Street. At the intersection of North Harvard and Cambridge Streets, vehicles will take a left for access to the I-90 on-ramp.

The contractor will be working on the shoulder of the I-90 ramps at Exit 131 next week from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with possible shoulder closures on the I-90 on-ramp as needed. There is no work scheduled on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice. Overnight ramp closures may be necessary on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, if inclement weather prevents the contractor from completing this paving work overnight on Monday and Tuesday.

 

Utility Work on the I-90 On and Off Ramps at Exit 131 - (Allston/Brighton) Brings Ramp Closures on Monday, November 1 and Thursday, November 4 - Night Work Continues November 1 through November 5

On Monday, November 1, 2021, and Thursday, November 4, 2021, the I-90 westbound off-ramp at Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) will be closed from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to facilitate the ongoing utility work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston. Traffic will be detoured to the Cambridge/Somerville fork where vehicles will take a left onto Cambridge Street at the first traffic light. Vehicles exiting I-90 eastbound at Exit 131 will follow the same detour. This work was postponed from the week of October 25 due to inclement weather.

Also, on Monday, November 1, 2021, through Friday, November 5, 2021, the contractor will be working on the shoulder of the I-90 on-ramp during the night shift from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

 

WEATHER UPDATE - October 25, 2021:

  • Due to the inclement weather predicted for tonight and tomorrow night, the full ramp closures that were planned at the I-90 interchange (Exit 131 - Allston/Brighton) for tonight, Monday, October 25, and tomorrow, Tuesday, October 26, have been cancelled. 
  • The scheduled closure of the I-90 off-ramp on Thursday night, October 28, as detailed below will still take place. 

 

Next Phase of Utility Work on the I-90 On and Off Ramps at Exit 131 - (Allston/Brighton) Begins on Monday, October 25

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be doing utility work on the I-90 on-ramp and off-ramp at exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) in Boston during the next two weeks.

From 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each night on Monday, October 25 and Thursday, October 28, the left exit of the I-90 westbound off-ramp at exit 131 (to Allston/Brighton) will be closed to facilitate the ongoing utility work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston. Traffic will be detoured to the right exit (Cambridge/Somerville) where vehicles will take a left onto Cambridge Street at the first traffic light. Vehicles exiting I-90 eastbound at exit 131 will follow the same detour.

From 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26 to 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27, the I-90 on-ramp (Allston/Brighton) at Cambridge Street will be closed. Detour signage will direct vehicles to take a left onto Soldiers Field Road followed by a left on Western Avenue and North Harvard Street. At the intersection of North Harvard and Cambridge Streets, vehicles will take a left for access to the I-90 on-ramp.

Daily, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning on Monday, November 1 through Friday, November 5, the contractor will be working on the shoulder of the I-90 on-ramp. There will be no closures or vehicle detours necessary during this work.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

Next Phase of Work on the I-90 On and Off Ramps at Exit 131 - (Allston/Brighton) Begins on Sunday, September 26

Beginning on Sunday, September 26, 2021, and continuing through Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., a contractor will be shifting the concrete barriers on the shoulder of the I-90 off-ramp/Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) to create a new center median work zone as part of the utility work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston. Once complete, off-ramp traffic will shift to the newly constructed ramp alignment. On-ramp traffic will remain in its current traffic pattern. Traffic flow will be maintained on the ramp at all times and the traffic pattern will be clearly marked.

During the following four weeks, until approximately the week of November 1, 2021, the contractor will be working within the new center work zone during the day shift (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.) to demolish the existing median, install new roadway drainage, construct a new center median, and repave the roadway within the work zone.

During off-peak hours, single lane closures may be required on the on-ramp to facilitate new roadway guardrail installation. All durations of the work are subject to change based upon weather and unforeseen conditions.

Project Impact Update - September 2, 2021

Work to remove soils along Almay Street has begun. As a result, fencing is going up around the area and there will be some excavating along Almay Street, which is closer to the neighborhood than other site activity. All trucks will access the site off of Hague Street from Western Ave. 

Work on the I-90 Off Ramp Exit 131 - (Allston/Brighton) Begins on Sunday, August 15

Beginning on Sunday, August 15, 2021, and continuing for two nights, a contractor will be re-striping the roadway and placing concrete barriers on the I-90 off ramp at Exit 131 (Allston/Brighton) to create a work zone on the right-hand shoulder of the ramp. This work will take place between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Traffic flow will be maintained on the ramp at all times and the traffic pattern will be clearly marked.

During the following six weeks, until approximately the week of September 20, 2021, the contractor will be working within the barrier work zone during the day shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to perform utility enabling work for the developing Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston.
