Rotterdam Street Utility Crossing

The construction of Harvard's new Science and Engineering Complex (SEC) on Western Ave required the installation of a new utility crossing across Rotterdam Street between the new District Energy Facility (DEF) and the Science and Engineering Complex.

Utility distribution piping was installed beneath Rotterdam Street in 2018 to connect the 55,000 square foot DEF to the SEC. The DEF will house energy production, energy conversion, and energy distribution equipment and will support the SEC and Harvard’s new Allston Innovation Corridor.

The utility crossing was completed in November of 2018.
