Work Began on April 25th with Scaffolding Scheduled to go up on Plant’s Western Ave Side on May 2nd

Harvard University has engaged a contractor to perform work on the Blackstone Power Plant located at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Western Avenue in Cambridge. The purpose of the project is to replace the plant’s windows, make façade repairs, and fortify the building against weather impacts.

The project began on Monday, April 25, 2022, and scaffolding is scheduled to go up on the Western Ave side of the building starting the week of Monday, May 2. Project completion is expected in November 2022.

Schedule & Neighborhood Impacts:

  • Once the project begins, neighbors can expect the presence of a work crew as well as construction equipment and activity within the work site between the project’s standard work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work is not anticipated at this time.
  • During these hours, the work will generate some noise due to the use of construction equipment, lifts, and power tools.
  • . Police details will be requested when needed to support certain activities.
  • Western Ave and Memorial Drive will remain open to vehicular traffic throughout the project. Street closures will not be necessary.

Additional notifications will be issued to keep the community notified ahead of any changes or neighborhood impacts.
