 PUBLIC WAY IMPACTS:

  • A new site fence, barriers, scrim and signage will be installed around the job site. All new pedestrian detours will be clearly marked with signage.
  • A new entrance for construction vehicles and equipment will be installed between Hemenway Gymnasium and Gannett House off of Massachusetts Ave.
  • A new handicap ramp and temporary walkway will be installed alongside Gannett House to assist with access to the building throughout construction.
  • The walkway on the side of Jefferson Lab facing Austin Hall and the walkway approaching Paine Hall from Jefferson will be shifted to the east to allow for fencing and barriers to be installed. Pedestrian access around the site will be maintained throughout construction.  

 EXTERIOR SITE ACTIVITIES: 

  • Contractors will be mobilizing on site installing the construction site fence, barriers, scrim, and signage to establish the project perimeter. Some noise and vibration impacts can be anticipated from the installation of the fence posts as well as the equipment used to set the concrete barriers.
  • The contractor will be making a new curb cut and installing the new construction entrance between Hemenway Gymnasium and Gannett House; a new walkway to the south of Gannett House will be created; and the walkway on the side of Jefferson Lab facing Austin Hall and the walkway approaching Paine Hall from Jefferson will be shifted to accommodate the project’s fencing and barriers. Noise and vibration impacts can be expected from the equipment used for this work.  Abutters may also notice some odor during asphalt installation.
  • A new handicap ramp and fence will be installed adjacent to Gannett Hall. There will be minimal noise impact from this operation.
  • After the installation of the perimeter site fence, erosion control material will be installed around the site. Minimal noise impacts can be expected from this work.
  • “Loading Only” asphalt markings will be placed at the Jefferson Turnaround. Date for this work is TBD.

OTHER IMPACTS:

  • There will be multiple construction vehicles entering and existing the site. All equipment will be entering and exiting the site from the construction entrance off Cambridge Street until the new entrance is established off Massachusetts Ave.
  • As of Monday, June 16, access to the Littauer lot from Oxford Street and the SEAS lot will be minimized. A temporary vehicle turnaround is available behind the Jefferson Lab and signage will be posted directing delivery drivers to follow the pedestrian paths to the buildings abutting this project.
  • Please note that delivery and service vehicles will not be able to drive into the construction zone. Project abutters should alert their vendors to this change when possible.

WORK HOURS:

  • Monday through Wednesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Thursday site will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM due to the Juneteenth Holiday.
  • No plan to work Saturday, June 21 at this time.
