The following summarizes the work planned for the New FAS Building for the week of July 7. Please note that items in BOLD are expected to generate some noticeable noise or impacts.
Dates: 7/7/25-7/11/25
PUBLIC WAY IMPACTS:
- Site fence will be relocated in front of Austin Hall to enclose the existing manhole at the southwest corner of the building to allow for the duct bank removal. The walkway in front of Austin Hall will be blocked towards Hemenway Gymnasium for approximately two weeks. Pedestrians will need to go to the north of Austin Hall to access Hemenway Gymnasium. The main entrance to Austin Hall will remain accessible from the east.
- The remainder of the site fence will remain in its current location.
EXTERIOR SITE ACTIVITIES:
- WL French will begin removing the existing duct bank from the manhole located at the southwest corner of Austin Hall towards the existing manhole in the middle of the site. Some workers may be observed wearing protective clothing on site as a precaution while removing the old duct bank. Noise impacts can be expected from excavation, equipment, and breaking up the duct bank. Please note this is a shallow excavation and will result in significantly less impact than the installation of the new duct bank that was directly adjacent to Littauer.
- Riggs will begin installing the perimeter site fence scrim and signage. Minimal noise impacts from this operation.
- Geocomp will be on site towards the end of the week to begin installing the utility monitoring points. Noise impact can be anticipated from this operation from the use of a vacuum truck needed to install monitoring points.
- The use of a roller on site to compact stone may result in some minor vibrations. The project team continues to check the vibration monitors to ensure vibrations remain under threshold.
OTHER IMPACTS:
- There will be multiple construction vehicles entering and existing the site. Equipment and trucking will continue using the construction entrance off of Massachusetts Avenue between Gannett House and Hemenway Gymnasium in conjunction with the existing construction entrance onto Cambridge Street (between Gannett and Littauer).
WORK HOURS:
- Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
- No plan to work Saturday, July 12 at this time.
