Week of July 14, 2025

The following summarizes the work planned for the New FAS Building for the week of July 14. Please note that items in BOLD are expected to generate some noticeable noise or impacts. 

Dates: 7/14/25-7/18/25
PUBLIC WAY IMPACTS:

  • Site fence will remain in place in front of Austin Hall to enclose the existing manhole at the southwest corner of the building for removal through the beginning of the week. The walkway in front of Austin Hall will be blocked towards Hemenway Gymnasium. Pedestrians will need to go to the north of Austin Hall to access Hemenway Gymnasium. The main entrance to Austin Hall will remain accessible from the east. This area of the walkway will be opened up by the end of the week.
  • The remainder of the site fence will remain in its current location with additional fence posts and fabric installed in front of Austin Hall.

EXTERIOR SITE ACTIVITIES:

  • WL French will complete the removal of the existing duct bank from the manhole located at the southwest corner of Austin Hall towards the existing manhole in the middle of the site. Some workers may be observed wearing protective clothing on site as a precaution while removing the old duct bank. Noise impacts from the equipment during this operation. 
  • WL French will continue to clear the site and begin the pre-excavation for the secant pile SOE system. Noise impacts from the equipment during this operation.
  • WL French intends to start the added irrigation sleeve excavation and installation on Tuesday 7/15. They will then backfill and pave the added walkway outside Hemenway on Wednesday 7/16.

OTHER IMPACTS:

  • There will be multiple construction vehicles entering and existing the site. Equipment and trucking will continue using the construction entrance off of Massachusetts Avenue between Gannett House and Hemenway Gymnasium in conjunction with the existing construction entrance onto Cambridge Street (between Gannett and Littauer).

WORK HOURS:

  • Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 
  • No plan to work Saturday, July 19 at this time.
