The following summarizes the work planned for the new FAS building for the week of January 5, 2026:

PUBLIC WAY IMPACTS:
- The site fence will remain in its current location. Wayfinding signage has been installed around the site and at the Jefferson turnaround to assist vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, and delivery drivers. CFD signage is being installed at the Oxford Street curb cut.
EXTERIOR SITE ACTIVITIES:
- French will continue excavating inside the secant wall for perimeter and isolated concrete footing on the west end of the site. There will be multiple trailers on site for this operation. Noise impacts can be anticipated from this operation.
- S&F will continue forming and installing reinforcing for the mat foundation slabs. Some noise impacts can be expected from this operation.
- French/Trevi will continue backfilling the steam tunnel excavation on the west end of the site. Some noise impacts can be expected from this operation.
- S&F is scheduled to place the 36” mat slab on Saturday, January 10. Note there is a noise variance request in with the City of Cambridge to allow for an early start/late finish. Trucks will be backing in from both gates and pulling out when they leave (same as tower crane operation) Police details will be in place at both gates as well as additional labor to assist.
OTHER IMPACTS:
- There will be multiple construction vehicles entering and existing the site. Equipment and trucking will continue using the construction entrance off Massachusetts Avenue between Gannett House and Hemenway Gymnasium in conjunction with the existing construction entrance onto Cambridge Street (between Gannett and Littauer).
- The buildings and utilities are being monitored 24/7 for conformance with specified vibration tolerances.
- The tower crane will continue operating.
- The contractor has applied to the City of Cambridge for a special permit to work over the weekend of January 10-11 from 5am to 7pm to pour a concrete mat slab, which takes more than 12 hours to complete. Minimal noise is expected from this work, but activity and increased trucking will be observed on site. A notice was provided to the abutters on Tuesday, December 23, via email.
WORK HOURS:
- Monday through Friday, January 5 -9, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Saturday, January 10, work hours have been requested to perform a concrete placement from 5am to 7pm.
