About this Project
Project Timeline & Work Hours
- Mobilization began the week of June 16, 2025, including initial site setup, fencing, and signage installation.
- Construction is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
- Work hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Occasional Saturday work (9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) may be necessary—with advanced notice provided for any weekend or after-hours activity.
Project Overview & Community Impacts
- Construction will involve ground-up building, site and landscaping work, and installation of a new fire access road.
- The project will be completed in phases: site preparation, underground infrastructure removal, excavation, concrete pours, steel installation, equipment placement, and building enclosure. Interior work will begin once the exterior is complete.
Traffic & Access:
- In June, a new curb cut was made off Mass Ave near Gannett House so construction vehicles can enter the site via this curb cut and exit via the Cambridge Street driveway, reducing noise from truck backup alarms.
- Access to the area from Oxford Street and the SEAS lot is being minimized.
- Delivery and service vehicles are not be able to pass through the construction zone; a temporary vehicle turnaround has been built behind the Jefferson Lab.
- Pedestrian and bicycle access in the area will be maintained, with new paths and clear signage as needed. Police details will assist with safety.
Noise & Vibration Control:
- Techniques such as drilled (not driven) secant piles are being used to minimize disruption.
- Dust, vibration, settlement, and noise monitors have been installed on adjacent buildings and utilities.
Site Safety & Cleanliness:
A pest control program is being maintained, and debris is being managed and removed promptly.
The job site is secured with 8-foot fencing lined with protective screening. Project team and contact information is displayed around the perimeter.
Historic markers and existing trees are being protected.
Abutters can anticipate higher noise levels during intensive construction, especially between summer 2025 and 2026.
