October 2025 Project Update
Harvard Engineering & Utilities and Harvard Real Estate has engaged Otis Elevator to upgrade the four-bank elevators at the Smith Campus Center on Mass Ave. The contractor began the first phase of work in October 2024 on elevator P3. This elevator is back in service. One elevator is being upgraded at a time and P6 is currently offline.
Due to the presence of work crews, the use of power tools and construction equipment, perceptible noise will be generated. Excessive noise will be permitted only until 8am.
Week of October 20, 2025:
Throughout the week the project team will be going through the adjustment phase of the elevator modernization project.
The project team has submitted a request to the state to conduct a test on elevator P-6 . Upon passing, the project team will transition back over to P-3 to install the new tiles. Once that work is complete, they will move over to P-4 to take that out of service and begin the modernization.
We will keep all updated as these things tend to change as the adjustment progresses.
