Eliot House / Kirkland House

Harvard University has hired a contractor to perform exploratory work on the Eliot House and Kirkland House located in Cambridge on 101 JFK Street and 95 Dunster Street, respectively. The scope of the project consists of exterior restoration, including new roofs, rebuilding chimneys, dormers, and repointing brick façade. Interior work will include basement, superstructure, and MEP systems improvements. The project will improve the buildings’ overall aesthetic and accessibility.

Project Schedule:

  • The contracting team began setting up the work zone and fence line around the buildings on June 3.
  • The project is scheduled for completion in September 2024.
  • Project work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some Saturday work between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. may be necessary.
  • Masonry/Roofing work to take place in HUDS loading dock (80 JFK Street) the week of June 17.
  • On June 17-18, the project team will have a vacuum truck present on Dunster Street, near Dunster Circle.

Neighborhood Impacts:

  • Some project work activities will generate intermittent noise due to the use of construction equipment and hand tools.
  • The contractor will adhere to the City of Cambridge’s noise ordinance and will not perform work before 7:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and not before 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays.
  • Due to regulatory requirements, abutters may notice some workers wearing protective gear.
  • Construction workers will not be permitted to park their personal vehicles on city streets.
  • While some work will take place on the John F. Kennedy Street side of the buildings, the road will be open to vehicles for the duration of this project. At times, pedestrians may need to be re-routed to the opposite sidewalk for their safety. Signage will be posted to provide guidance.
