The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into fall 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations.
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final roadway paving is being coordinated with the City of Boston.
Kresge Way Gas Line Relocation Phase 2 and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank
Construction work is underway on the Kresge Way Gas Line Relocation Phase 2 and Extension of Thermal Pipes/Electrical Duct Bank.
- Crews continue to work on excavation and shoring installation.
- Prefab fusion of the pipes will start followed by installation of the piping.
- A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.
- The road is striped and appropriate signage is in place.
- An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.
- Construction is being phased in smaller segments to minimize impacts to visitors, pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles.
- During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment.
DEF, ERC and Road Work
- The 12 Western Avenue driveway to Harvard’s District Energy Facility (DEF) has shifted back to Milestone Street near National Resilience from Trotting Avenue.
- The ERC development team continues bulk excavation of the Residential/Hotel and Laboratory sites.
- Trucks may begin lining up at 6:30am however, work will not begin until 7:00am.
- Work will take place on Saturday, August 26, starting at 9:00am.
- Crews will continue welding cross bracing at the laboratory site.
- Gas line work will be done on Western Ave and Trotting Avenue by National Gird.
- This work will continue into the week followed by paving.
- Work continues on the mockups by Hague Street.
- A new pedestrian signage plan will be implemented to ensure the safety of pedestrians around the area.
- All are working in coordination with National Resilience.
92 Seattle Street
- Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
- Mini pile drilling inside the building is underway.
- Crews are planning to conduct another test pit on the corner of Travis Street and Rena Street.
175 North Harvard Street
- Project trailers remain occupied in the 201 Western Avenue lot.
- The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.
- Interior abatement continues.
- Selective exterior demolition may continue into the beginning of the week.
- Fencing and barriers are installed.
210 North Harvard Street
- Work on this exterior and interior improvement project is in progress.
- The work zone has expanded into the street parking lanes and sidewalk.
- Construction noise can be expected during standard work hours Monday through Friday, from 7AM to 3PM. Excavators and trucking equipment will be used to perform this work.
