Week of September 25, 2023

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into fall 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations.  
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
 
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in November.
 
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Construction work is underway on the extension of the thermal pipes/electrical duct bank.  
  • Prefab fusion, pipe placement, and trench fusion work will continue to occur.  
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • Construction is being phased in smaller segments to minimize impacts to visitors, pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment.  

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • The ERC development team continues bulk excavation of the Residential/Hotel and Laboratory sites.  
    • Trucks may begin lining up at 6:30am however, work will not begin until 7:00am.  
  • The Treehouse Conference Center plans to mobilize excavation operations on Tuesday, September 26th.
    • Bulk excavation of the site will begin Wednesday, September 27th.
  • The Residential/Hotel and Conference Center sites will truck soil to the Beacon Park Yard.
    • Trucks will transport the soil from the site to the rail yard via a private haul road.
    • Soil removal is planned for Saturday, September 23rd.
  • Concrete operations continue at the Residential/Hotel site.  
  • Crews will begin lining the Laboratory site foundation with stone in preparation for mat slab placement.
    • This work will start Saturday, September 23rd.
  • Work on the building mockups continues by Hague Street. 

92 Seattle Street

  • Work is planned for Saturday, September 23rd.
  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.    
  • Mini pile drilling inside the building continues.  
  • Demolition of a concrete slab will continue.  

175 North Harvard Street

  • Work is planned for Saturday, September 23rd.
  • Project trailers remain occupied in the 201 Western Avenue lot.    
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  
  • Interior abatement has been completed.
  • Selective exterior abatement will continue.  
  • The building demolition is planned to start in October.  

210 North Harvard Street

  • Punch list items remain to be completed.  
  • Pouring concrete for the building’s entrance ramp and stairs will take place on Saturday, September 23rd.
