The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is finishing up on Kresge Way and is being coordinated with University operations.
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. The original entrance and drive alignment is back in place off Western Avenue.
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration is underway.
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank
- Restoration is finishing up.
- Landscaping crews are completing their work.
- Removal of barriers at parking lot and final striping is underway.
- Final sidewalk finish work and installation of a berm off Western Avenue in front of Harvard Business School took place.
- During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (at times may extend to 6 p.m.), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment.
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
- Work is scheduled for this Saturday, May 4, starting at 7 a.m.
- Utility tie-ins will occur inside the site.
- The Treehouse Conference Center will have crews prepping for concrete placements and core work.
- The Residential/Hotel site will have crews preparing for concrete placements and steel installation.
- The Laboratory site will have a small crew doing welding and bolting of steel.
- Punchlist work and adjustments are ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory mockups with an occasional lane shift on Rotterdam Street for use of a lift and possible deliveries.
- Structural steel continues to be delivered and installed using the tower cranes.
- Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing.
- The Treehouse conference center cores are underway.
- Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing may take place after 6 a.m.
- Visible work is taking place on level seven and eight of the high rise and midrise residential buildings.
- Four tower cranes are operating on site and are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
- Eversource is making final connections and inspections to connect temporary power to the Treehouse, which may involve the use of equipment intermittently on Western Avenue.
- Drones will be in use weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
- Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
- Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled Wednesdays or Thursdays alternating weekly.
- No drone flights are scheduled this week.
92 Seattle Street
- Roof, electrical and masonry work will take place this Saturday, May 4.
- Use of a crane may be necessary to hoist equipment onto the roof.
- East side demo work continues to take place.
- Roof replacement work remains ongoing.
- Interior work continues to progress.
- Small concrete placements will take place.
175 North Harvard Street & 100 South Campus Drive
Construction has begun on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building already under construction behind it.
- Utility work on Ivy Lane continues. One lane of traffic will be maintained during work hours. The road will be plated after hours with two lanes of traffic reopened.
- The contractor will be working on Saturday, May 4, to install rebar and plumbing drain lines in preparation for the large mat slab placement targeted for May 16.
- Overnight utility tie-in work will take place on Ivy Lane, currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 8 to coordinate with a water shutdown at the Continuum residence. Lighting and equipment will be operational.
- A tower crane is operating on site. At the end of each shift, the crane will be left in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward.
- South Campus Drive has been redirected to one way traffic from Western Avenue to North Harvard Street.
- Vehicles will not be allowed to enter from the North Harvard Street entrance to South Campus Drive.
- Concrete form work and placement continues on the first residential elevator core tower.
- Utility work will take place inside the site.
- ART project soil removal continues.
- Crews at the ART project on placing formwork for foundation walls and elevator cores.
- Mock-up masonry work is underway across the street from the site and will be taking place on Saturday, May 4.
- Concrete operations are underway within the site foundation.
- Because concrete pours cannot be stopped mid-pour, some of these operations may occasionally go slightly later than 6:00 p.m. The contractor will make every effort to minimize this.
- Wheel washing and street sweeping continues.
- Deliveries are ongoing.
- Site work hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m.
- The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.
210 North Harvard Street
- The fit-out team is installing an outdoor freezer in the loading dock area off Bertram Street.
- Permanent power feeds will be connected later this spring.
- Next week crews will begin replacing the sidewalk adjacent to the building at Bertram and North Harvard Streets.
108 Holton Street
Crews will be preparing to demolition this building during this three-month project.
- Abatement work continues on the roof.
- Demolition preparation is underway.
55 Antwerp Street
- Utility work on the sidewalk will take place along Artists Asylum on May 6 – May 31.
- A coned off work zone in the street and sidewalk will accommodate this work.
- Two-way traffic will be maintained. Pedestrians will shift to the opposite sidewalk.
