Week of May 20, 2024

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway and Kresge Way phase of infrastructure work is finishing up with inspections and punch list work in coordination with University operations.  

Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Punchlist work will be completed after commencement.
  • Sweeping and final striping is expected to take place.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Work is scheduled for this Saturday, May 18 starting at 7 a.m. 
    • Utility tie-ins will occur inside the site.
    • The Treehouse Conference Center will have crews prepping for concrete placements and core work.
    • The Treehouse will also be removing scaffolding on Sunday, May 19 starting at 7 a.m. 
    • The Residential/Hotel site will have crews preparing for concrete placements and steel installation.
  • Punchlist work and adjustments are ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory mockups with an occasional lane shift on Rotterdam Street for use of a lift and possible deliveries.
  • Structural steel continues to be delivered and installed using the tower cranes.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing.
  • The Treehouse conference center cores are underway.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing may take place after 6 a.m.
  • Visible work is taking place on level nine of the high rise and up to the mechanical penthouse of the midrise residential buildings.  The hotel has steel erected to Level 10.
  • Four tower cranes are operating on site and are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Eversource will make final connections and inspections to connect temporary power to the Treehouse in early June, which may involve the use of equipment intermittently out on Western Avenue.
  • Drones will be in use weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
  • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
  • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled Wednesdays or Thursdays alternating weekly.
  • No drone flights are planned for this week.

92 Seattle Street

  • A lift will be operating from a section of Rena Path beginning on Wednesday, May 22 for two weeks as crews install a metal angle along the south side of the roofline.
    • Cones and a flagger will be in place to help direct pedestrians and cyclists around the activity.
  • Excavation for the addition on the façade and ramp area will take place on the east side of the site.
  • Roof replacement work remains ongoing.
  • Interior work continues to progress.

175 North Harvard Street,100 South Campus Drive, 201 Western Avenue Lot Expansion

Construction continues on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building under construction behind it.

  • On Saturday, May 18, the second large mat slab placement for the residential project requires extended early morning and late work hours. Activity on site will begin as early as 3 a.m. with three pump trucks arriving at approximately 4 a.m. and concrete trucks arriving at about 5 a.m.
    • South Campus Drive will be closed to traffic that morning from 3 a.m.to 7 a.m. to accommodate a concrete pump and trucks.
    • The concrete operation will continue throughout the day and into the evening.  Depending on weather conditions, concrete finish work is expected to  be completed by 10 p.m.
  • Utility work on Ivy Lane continues. One lane of traffic will be maintained during work hours, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The road will be plated after hours with two lanes of traffic reopened.
  • Concrete form work and placement continues.
  • Utility work will take place inside the site.
  • A tower crane is operating on site. At the end of each shift, the crane will be left in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward.
  • On the new American Repertory Theater (ART) work site, small concrete pours are taking place every other day and waterproofing operations continue.
  • The project is working on the building’s footings and foundation walls, backfill operations, and duct bank work.
  • Soil is being stockpiled on site and will be covered to minimize dust.
  • South Campus Drive has been redirected to one way traffic from Western Avenue to North Harvard Street.
    • Only construction vehicles are permitted to enter from the North Harvard Street entrance to South Campus Drive. 
  • Wheel washing and street sweeping continues.
  • Deliveries are ongoing.
  • Site work hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.
  • Building mock-ups to review design and constructability are underway across North Harvard Street.
  • Lot expansion is underway at the 201 Western Avenue lot, where construction workers park and field offices are set up and in use. Excavating, grading and preparation for paving continues inside the fence bordering Academic Way and behind the ArtLab.
  • During the expansion activity and for concrete placements intermittent use of the back gate will be necessary for truck staging and/or exiting.  

210 North Harvard Street

  • The fit-out team is installing an outdoor freezer in the loading dock area off Bertram Street.
  • Permanent power feeds will be connected later this spring.

108 Holton Street

Crews will be preparing demolition of this building during this three-month project.

  • Demolition preparation is underway.

55 Antwerp Street

  • Utility work in the lot and sidewalk continues near the Artists Asylum through the month.
  • A coned off work zone in the street and sidewalk will accommodate this work.
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained. Pedestrians will shift to the opposite sidewalk.

Soldiers Field Garage Masonry Repairs

Plans are underway for set-up for a masonry repair project to begin on Soldiers Field Garage after Memorial Day beginning on Tuesday, May 28.
