Overhead mast arm lights will be installed after delivery and thermal striping in the Harvard Business School lot will take place this fall.
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
Residential/Hotel
- Saturday, August 17 hotel curtain wall will be installed. The tower crane and hoists will be operational as preparation for the topping off takes place. Exterior wall operations will take place on the mid-rise.
- Concrete decking and other operations continue.
- Hotel steel installation has topped off at level 17 and continues with work on the periscope, the cantilevered section of the building.
- The high-rise building will top off at level 18 next week.
- The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at level 9.
- The hoists (exterior construction elevators) and loading docks have been installed and are operational at mid-rise and high-rise. Hotel hoist and loading dock installation continues.
- Exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential buildings.
- Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed at the hotel.
- MEP work is ongoing.
Laboratory and Office Buildings
- State police- escorted oversize trucks will deliver HVAC ducts to the site on Saturday, August 17. Cranes will be in operation.
- Workers will be on site for steel activities and for concrete preparation in the parking garage.
- Concrete operations continue with deck placements.
- The hoist is being installed on the southern side of the building.
- Structural steel continues to be delivered and installed on the east building with decking and detailing finishing on the west building.
- The east building steel is up to level 11, and the west building has topped off finishing structural steel on the second mechanical penthouse above level 9.
- Utility installation is underway on the perimeter of the site.
- MEP work is ongoing.
Greenway
- Pre-clearing excavation is underway with intermodals delivering material for rail transport to the Beacon Yard through the haul road, all inside the site.
Treehouse Conference Center
- A crew will be doing mass timber activities this Saturday, August 17 starting at 7 a.m. A crane and lifts will be in use.
- Mass timber installation and protection work continues.
- Concrete pads will be placed in the basement.
- Shoring tower scaffolding system will be installed.
- Thermal activities along East Drive (Milestone Street) are underway.
Building Mock-Ups
- Punchlist work and other adjustments are intermittent on all five mockups.
Eversource Conduit Project
- Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.
General
- The site’s four tower cranes have been erected and are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
- The projects’ work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
- Drones will be in use bi-weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
- Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
- Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
- A drone flight is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21 from 7 a.m. through early afternoon.
- Harvard is scheduling a drone flight overhead and exterior to the site on Tuesday, August 20 from approximately 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The rain date is Thursday, August 22 from approximately 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
92 Seattle Street
Renovation is finishing up for reuse of this Harvard building.
- Crews are completing interior finish work.
- Tenant fit-out work is underway.
- The site fence has begun to be taken down and will continue as the project completes.
- East side entrance fence will stay for storm drainage.
- Testing, balancing, and punch list will continue.
- Late night interior work with finishes is ongoing
- Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with possible intermittent coordinated weekend work.
175 North Harvard Street, 100 South Campus Drive
Construction is underway on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building already under construction behind it.
• The structural steel phase of the housing project is ongoing rising out of the ground this month. Decking will follow through December. Steel beams are being delivered on flat-bed trucks and will be offloaded and installed using the tower crane. Concrete decking and detailing will be taking place through this month. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades are on site working on under slab utilities. Rebar installation begins this week and concrete pouring is planned to start the following week.
• Please note stud welders are on site now and their use will create some perceptible noise.
• The tower crane will be in use into next year during normal working hours and will be placed in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward at the end of every shift. • Wheel washing and street sweeping continues to ensure soil is not being tracked through the neighborhood streets.
• There are no planned road closures on South Campus Drive this week. Only construction vehicles are permitted to turn onto South Campus Drive from North Harvard Street for safety reasons and to improve traffic flow. All other vehicles are directed to access South Campus Drive from Western Ave.
On the new American Repertory Theater (ART) work site, crews are excavating for the final sequence of foundation and backfill.
- This foundation work will continue through August. Concrete and rebar work will continue through August. Backfilling is ongoing in the substage area. Formwork and waterproofing will be ongoing and tie-ins for the mat slab work are starting.
- Building mock-ups to review design and constructability are underway across North Harvard Street. The curtain wall for the mock-up will be delivered in late August/early September.
- The affiliate housing building crew will be working on site this Saturday, August 17, to progress with structural steel and decking work.
- The project’s regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
210 North Harvard Street
- Permanent power feeds and removal of temp power lines are expected following inspections. Permanent fencing is being installed.
114 Western Ave
- An office fit out project for the HALC suite on the 3rd floor is expected to mobilize and continue through October.
- A demolition permit is set to begin on August 19.
168 Western Ave
- Shawmut will start enabling work next week inside the building at times impacting the Swiss Bakers operation.
Soldiers Field Garage Masonry Repairs and Office HVAC Replacement
- Masonry repairs continue at the Soldiers Field Park Garage. Crews have been operating from staging with overhead protection in place. A lift will be used to conduct this work from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays with set up beginning at 7 a.m.
- A summer HVAC replacement project continues in the parking garage office. Material staging and unloading is out of the way and some exterior work with a police detail in place.
- Crews continue to power wash and repair the brick panels for the exterior garage on the west HBS side.
- Two sides facing resident halls will be finishing up this week.
