Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Bond installed the overhead mast arm lights last week
  • Thermal striping in the Harvard Business School lot will take place this fall.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

Residential/Hotel

  • Concrete decking is finishing up.
  • Other smaller concrete operations continue.
  • The high-rise building has topped off at level 18.
  • The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at
  • level 9.
  • The hoists (exterior construction elevators) and loading docks have been installed and are operational at the midrise and high rise. The hotel hoist and loading dock installation are finishing along Trotting Avenue.
  • Exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential
  • buildings.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed at the hotel.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Laboratory and Office Buildings

  • Concrete operations continue with deck placements.
  • The hoist and loading dock are finishing on the southern side of the building.
  • The east building structural steel is up to level 11, and the west building has topped off finishing structural steel. Penthouse steel and detailing is taking place on both buildings.
  • Utility installation is underway on the perimeter of the site.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Greenway

  • Pre-clearing excavation is underway with intermodals delivering material for rail transport to the Beacon Yard through the haul road, all inside the site.
  • Backfilling, involving trucks of clean soil entering the site, is underway.

Treehouse Conference Center

  • Mass timber installation and protection work continues.
  • MEP work is underway.

Waterline Installation on Western Avenue

  • The ERC team is working with the City, Boston Water and Sewer and Harvard to replace a 12-inch waterline with a larger 16-inch waterline from Hague to Milestone streets on Western Avenue.
  • The waterline replacement will take place Monday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and begin the week of September 9.
  • Crews will be doing preparation work on Friday, August 30 including pulling back the fence line along Western Avenue and widening the current pathway/bike lane. Saw cutting will take place at the gates.
  • A first activity in that area, the installation of a temporary bypass waterline, will begin during standard daytime hours directly after Labor Day weekend on Tuesday, September 3. A police officer will direct pedestrian, cycling and roadway traffic.
  • During the nighttime work, pedestrians will shift to the Harvard Business School side of the road and cyclists will share the road. 

Building Mock-Ups

  • Punchlist work and other adjustments are intermittent on all five mockups.

Eversource Conduit Project

  • Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours, typically from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.

Milestone Thermals

  • Work continues on the southern section of Milestone near the DEF (District Energy Facilities) for installation of the duct bank.

General

  • The site’s four tower cranes have been erected and are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
  • The projects’ work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
  • Drones will be in use bi-weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
  • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
  • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
  • A drone flight is scheduled for next Thursday, September 5 at 7 a.m.

92 Seattle Street

Renovation is finishing up for reuse of this Harvard building.       

  • Tenant fit-out work and move in is underway. 
  • East side entrance fencing will stay for storm drainage work through September.
  • Storm water installation is taking place on the east side.
  • Soil hauling/trucking will begin.
  • Punch list work will continue.
  • Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Inspections are ongoing.
  • Final cleanings are ongoing.
  • At the north side an added sidewalk ramp cut in and related, striping and curbing will be installed.

175 North Harvard Street, 100 South Campus Drive 

Construction is underway on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building already under construction behind it.

  • The structural steel phase of the housing project remains ongoing. Decking and detailing continues through December. Steel beams deliveries are offloaded and installed using the tower crane. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades are on site working on under slab utilities. Rebar installation continues and several concrete placements will take place next week during regular work hours. Stud welders are in use on site, which do create some perceptible noise.
  • The crew will be working after hours on Tuesday, September 3, until about 8:00 p.m. conducting laser scans of the structural steel. This work should not be disruptive to the neighborhood.
  •  As the building grows in height, please note there will be an increase in personnel on upper floors and on exterior staging.
  •  The tower crane will be in use for the next five months during normal working hours and will be placed in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward at the end of every shift.
  •  Wheel washing and street sweeping continues to ensure soil is not being tracked through the neighborhood streets.
  •  There are no planned road closures on South Campus Drive this week. Only construction vehicles are permitted to turn onto South Campus Drive from North Harvard Street for safety reasons and to improve traffic flow. All other vehicles are directed to access South Campus Drive from Western Ave.
  • Within the next six weeks, a lower-level deck concrete placement will require some extended hours. More details will be provided as the date gets closer.

On the new American Repertory Theater (ART) work site, crews are excavating for the final sequence of foundation and backfill. Backfilling is ongoing in the substage area. Underground electrical work was completed last week. Plumbing work will start next week in preparation for slab on grade work. Formwork and waterproofing will be ongoing and tie-ins for the mat slab work have started. The next concrete pour will take place in September. Curtainwall (the non-structural exterior building covering) will begin after Labor Day and then the contractor will start working on the brick façade.

  • Beginning the week of September 9, utility work will begin on Ivy Lane on the 12-inch drain line tie in and two water taps for the domestic and fire protection lines. One lane will be kept open on Ivy Lane for vehicles to pass. Work will take place during regular work hours and will continue through September. The road will be plated overnight.
  •  Building mock-ups to review design and constructability continue across North Harvard Street. The curtain wall for the mock-up will be delivered in the coming weeks.
  •  The project’s regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

210 North Harvard Street

  • Permanent power feeds are in place.
  • Eversource to remove old pole and power line.
  • The rooftop unit is operating with fit out team painting exterior.
  • Sign is going up for the new Bakery which is set to open end of September

114 Western Ave

  • An office fit out project for the HALC suite on the 3rd floor is expected to mobilize and continue through October.
  • Demolition has begun.

168 Western Ave

  • Shawmut enabled work this week inside the building at times impacting the Swiss Bakers operation.
  • A small crew will work inside for a month from 3:00pm-12:00am

Soldiers Field Garage Masonry Repairs and Office HVAC Replacement

  • Masonry repairs continue at the Soldiers Field Park Garage. Crews have been operating from staging with overhead protection in place. A lift will be used to conduct this work from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays with set up beginning at 7 a.m.  
  • Crews continue to power wash and repair the brick panels for the exterior garage on the west HBS side and the south side of the building.
  • The HVAC Project in the Transportation is complete with the remainder of the punch list items finishing this week.
