Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Thermal striping in the Harvard Business School lot will take place next spring.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
Residential/Hotel

  • On Saturday, October 5, crews will be working on exterior walls at the mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings. Exterior panels will also be installed at the hotel.
  • The high-rise building has topped off at level 18.
  • The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at level 9.
  • Windows, exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential buildings.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed at the hotel.
  • Other smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Spray-on fireproofing is underway at the hotel.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Laboratory and Office Buildings.

  • On Saturday, October 5 crews will be doing exterior clean up and roof activities on both buildings. Tower cranes will be operating. Small deliveries may take place. 
  • The site’s two tower cranes are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed on the west building.
  • Concrete operations continue with deck placements on the upper floors on the east building.
  • Both east and west buildings structural steel have topped off.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • Spray-on fireproofing continues.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Greenway

  • Bulk excavation continues with intermodals delivering material for rail transport to the Beacon Yard through the haul road, all inside the site.
  • Backfilling, involving trucks of clean soil entering the site, is underway.

Treehouse Conference Center

  • Mass timber installation will take place on Saturday, October 5.
  • Mass timber installation continues throughout the week.
  • MEP activities are taking place on level one.
  • Preparation for façade installation is underway

Waterline Installation on Western Avenue

  • The ERC team is working with the City, Boston Water and Sewer and Harvard to replace a 12-inch waterline with a larger 16-inch waterline from Hague to Milestone streets on Western Avenue.
  • The waterline replacement takes place Monday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and began in early September. Occasional daytime paving may take place on Saturdays.
  • Crews will be paving a section of backfilled trench on Saturday, October 5 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Pedestrians will shift to the Harvard Business School side of the road and cyclists will share the road during these activities. 

Building Mock-Ups

  • Building mockups are on the corner of Hague and Rotterdam Streets.

Eversource Conduit Project

  • Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours, typically from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.

Milestone Thermals

  • Duct bank installation and manhole work will continue at the Greenway.

General

  • The projects’ work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday work is scheduled to take place starting at 7 a.m.
  • Hoists (exterior construction elevators) are operating on the residential, hotel and lab buildings.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
  • Drones will be in use bi-weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
    • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
    • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
    • No drone flight is scheduled this week.

North Allston Storm Drain Extension Project (NASDEP)
The NASDEP, a project designed for Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) to alleviate the inundated existing storm water systems in North Allston, continues with enabling work on the ERC site.

  • Drainage structure A11 work will continue this week. A brick invert and final backfilling will complete this work.
  • Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week.
  • Moving the dewatering system and finalizing the grading will take place in the next two weeks.

92 Seattle Street
Renovation is finishing up for reuse of this Harvard building.       

  • Drainage work continues to progress.
  • Fencing on the east facade will stay in place until storm drainage work is complete.  
  • Sanctions and caution tape will temporarily be up around the bike path.
  • Handrail work at the entrance will take place.
  • Floor repairs are expected to occur.
  • Final grading and landscaping are underway.
  • Punch list items remain ongoing.
  • Inspections are ongoing.
  • Paving work expected to take place.
  • Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3 pm.

175 North Harvard Street, 100 South Campus Drive 
The following is an overview of the work taking place at the 175 North Harvard construction site at the future location of the new Harvard University affiliate housing building and American Repertory Theatre (ART): 

  • The structural steel phase of the housing project remains ongoing. Decking and detailing continues through December. Steel beams deliveries are offloaded and installed using the tower crane. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades are on site working on under slab utilities. Rebar installation continues and several concrete placements will take place each week during regular work hours – some finishing work may extend beyond 6 p.m. depending on weather conditions. The contractor will be working on grading and prepping an area for the temporary construction hoist. Work will include sitework, rebar and concrete.
  • There will be an increase in personnel on upper floors and on exterior staging as the building grows in height.
  • The tower crane will be in use for the next four months during normal working hours and will be placed in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward at the end of every shift.
  • Wheel washing and street sweeping continues to ensure soil is not being tracked through the neighborhood streets.
  • A road closure of South Campus Drive will be required to support concrete operations and will be coordinated with utility work in Ivy Lane. The team will coordinate signage and police details as needed.
  • On the new American Repertory Theater (ART) work site, foundation work is ongoing with a mix of excavating, backfilling, placements, footings and wall activity. Plumbing work continues in preparation for slab on grade work. Formwork and waterproofing will be ongoing and tie-ins for the mat slab work have started. Excavation for footings and concrete operations continue with concrete placements every couple of days. Structural slab placements have begun at the lower level.  On the east side, excavation for footings and concrete operations continue through the rest of this month with placements every couple of days. Then crews will excavate the foundation and backfill.
  • SDC will be working on grading and prepping for the temporary construction hoist/platform slab on grade. 
  • Work continues on the building mock-ups to review design and constructability across North Harvard Street.
  • At the VMU, they are removing the AVB and reinstalling sheathing. Rewatering proofing and rewatering the windows. Testing later this month.
  • The project’s regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 am to 6 pm.

210 North Harvard Street

  • Eversource or Verizon will remove an old pole and power line.
  • Sign is up for the new Bakery which is set to open in mid-October.

114 Western Ave

  • An office fit out project for the HALC suite on the 3rd floor is scheduled for completion on October 18.
  • HVAC work is ongoing.

168 Western Ave

  • Shawmut continues interior work at times impacting the Swiss Bakers operation.
  • Enabling interior work continues this week during normal working hours 7 am – 3 pm.
  • A fence has been installed to capture the construction area.

304 Western Ave

  • A roofing project was mobilized last week and will go through October 18.
  • Most of the work will go through the loading dock area.

55 Antwerp St

  • The design for sidewalk work is finished.
  • Mobilization will be on October 11.

Soldiers Field Garage Masonry Repairs and Office HVAC Replacement

  • Masonry repairs continue at the Soldiers Field Park Garage. Crews have been operating from staging with overhead protection in place. A lift will be used to conduct this work from 8 am to 6 pm weekdays with set up beginning at 7 am.
  • Brick repair and washing continues this week.
  • Replacing the fence this week.
  • Panel placement is underway.
  • The HVAC Project in the Transportation is close to completion.
  • The final punch list items remain ongoing.
