Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Thermal striping in the Harvard Business School lot will take place next spring.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
Residential/Hotel

  • On Saturday, November 9, crews will be working on exterior panels at the hotel and exterior walls and windows at the mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings. Multiple boom lifts will be used for this activity. A crane will be at the midrise loading roofing material. Storefront and interior mechanical work will be underway at the hotel. 
  • The high-rise building has topped off at level 18.
  • The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at level 9.
  • Windows, exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential buildings.
  • Other smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • MEP work is ongoing.
  • Temporary heaters and fuel tanks will be delivered next week and will begin set up.

Laboratory and Office Buildings.

  • On Saturday, November 9, a tower crane will be operating to set curtain wall. Also miscellaneous roofing activities will take place. Spray-on fireproofing on the penthouse. Miscellaneous interior mechanical work, wall framing on various floors as well as general cleanup will also be underway. Some deliveries possible.
  • The site’s two tower cranes are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed during the week.
  • Smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Both east and west buildings structural steel have topped off.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • Spray-on fireproofing continues.
  • MEP work is ongoing.
  • Temporary heaters and fuel tanks are being delivered and set up.

Greenway

  • Bulk excavation continues with intermodals delivering material for rail transport to the Beacon Yard through the haul road, all inside the site.
  • Drainage structures and pipe installation are underway.
  • Concrete activity for the rainwater storage tank will continue.
  • Backfilling will be underway.

Treehouse Conference Center

  • Mass timber activities and door frame installation will take place on Saturday, November 9. A crane will be in operation.
  • Mass timber deliveries and installation continue with a crane operating during the week.
  • MEP activities and miscellaneous utilities are ongoing.
  • Two slab-on-grade concrete placements will take place.

Waterline Installation and Sewer Work on Western Avenue

  • Crews will be finishing work in the next week during the day shift.
  • The shared bicycle and pedestrian path may intermittently be closed.
  • Pedestrians will shift to the Harvard Business School side of the road and cyclists will share the road when it is closed. 
  • Backfilling and paving the bypass waterline areas will be complete.
  • Concrete sidewalk work and relocating the fence line back closer to Western Avenue will take place next week with line striping will follow.

Building Mock-Ups

  • Building mockups are on the corner of Hague and Rotterdam Streets.

Eversource Conduit Project

  • Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours, typically from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.

General

  • The project’s work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays/off hours as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday work is scheduled to take place starting at 7 a.m.
  • Hoists (exterior construction elevators) are operating on the residential, hotel and lab buildings.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
  • Drones will be in use bi-weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
    • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
    • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
    • No drone flights are scheduled this week.

North Allston Storm Drain Extension Project (NASDEP)
The NASDEP, a project designed for Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) to alleviate the inundated existing storm water systems in North Allston, continues with enabling work on the ERC site.

  • Crews continue to install fencing at the railyard.

92 Seattle Street
Renovation for reuse of this Harvard building is complete and some final punch list items will be completed during winter break.

175 North Harvard Street, 100 South Campus Drive 
The following is an overview of the work taking place at the 175 North Harvard construction site at the future location of the new Harvard University affiliate housing building and American Repertory Theatre (ART):

  • A concrete slab placement at the ART project is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 (conditions could move this to Thursday, November 14). The pump truck set up inside the site nearer to Ivy Lane will begin at 5:30 a.m. and concrete trucks will arrive at 6 a.m. The trucks will stage at the 201 Western Avenue lot and enter South Campus Drive and enter and exit through the Ivy Lane gate. It is anticipated that this placement could require extended hours after 7 p.m.
  • The structural steel phase of the housing project is ongoing. Decking and detailing will continue through mid-December. Steel beam deliveries are offloaded and installed using the tower crane. Crews are finishing on level 8 and 9 with levels 10 and 11 to follow. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades continue to work on site. A subcontractor is working on small utilities, including storm, duct bank, and data. Rebar installation continues as well as exterior waterproofing. Crews are also fireproofing the third and fourth floors. This work will continue progressing up the building.
  • Neighbors will continue to see road closures on South Campus Drive in support of concrete operations to allow for concrete pump placement and site access. All pours are anticipated to take place on weekdays during normal working hours with the road being returned at the end of each day. Signage and details will be provided to divert traffic as needed.
  • Concrete deck placements can be expected each week this month on levels six through ten during regular work hours – some finishing work may extend beyond 6:00 p.m. depending on weather conditions. A pump truck will be present on South Campus Drive during concrete pours.
  • Within the next few weeks, additional work will include precast steel stair installation and exterior building wrap to retain heat in the coming weeks.
  • The housing contractor is grading and prepping an area for the temporary construction hoist (exterior elevator). Work includes sitework, rebar, and concrete. The hoist is expected to go up by November 15.
  • As the building grows in height, please note there is an increase in personnel on upper floors and on exterior staging.
  • The tower crane will be in use for the next two months during normal working hours and will be placed in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward at the end of every shift.
  • Wheel washing and street sweeping continues to ensure soil is not being tracked through the neighborhood streets.
  • On the new American Repertory Theater (ART) work site, a mix of excavating, backfilling, placements of walls and piers continues. Excavation for loading dock foundations is underway. Interior slab and exterior wall waterproofing is ongoing. Utility installation around the perimeter of the building continue.
  • Structural steel will be arriving on the ART site on December 2, and installation will go through January. A crane will arrive the week of November 25.
  • Work continues on the building mock-ups to review design and constructability across North Harvard Street. At the ART mockup, activities will intermittently take place. Independent light fixture mockups will begin in two to three weeks. Adjustments continue intermittently on the housing mockup.
  • Miscellaneous steel, concrete work, and trash removal will be taking place on the next two Saturdays, November 9 and 16, on the new Harvard University affiliate housing building.
  • The project’s regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays as permitted by the City of Boston from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The job site will be closed on Monday, November 11 for Veterans Day.

210 North Harvard Street

  • Eversource or Verizon will remove an old pole and power line.
  • The bakery Sofra is now open. 

114 Western Ave

  • Project is complete.

168 Western Ave

  • Shawmut continues interior work at times impacting the Swiss Bakers operation.
  • Exterior utility tie-ins will begin in November.

304 Western Ave

  • The roofing project is waiting on edging to be delivered and installed.  

55 Antwerp St

  • Sidewalk and fence work has been delayed. This work will remobilize at the end of November.   

Soldiers Field Garage Masonry Repairs and Office HVAC Replacement

  • All floors in the garage are available for use.
  • Punchlist items will be completed in two weeks and then the project will wrap.
