Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs Roof Replacement

Harvard Kennedy School has contracted the replacement of the roofing system at the Belfer Building, with work scheduled to begin at the end of May 2023 and an anticipated completion in late August 2023.

The scope of the project includes the installation of new roofing & curtain wall systems, as well as the addition of roof anchors.

Project Schedule & Community Impacts

  • The contractor will begin setting up the work zone and fence line on Wednesday, May 31st.
  • The project is scheduled for completion in late August 2023.
  • Project work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Limited Saturday work between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. may be necessary.
  • Scaffolding will be erected on the northeast side of the building (abutting Eliot Street) from the ground level to the roof and will be used for project personnel access.
  • Overhead protection will be in place at all building entrances throughout the duration of the project.
  • We anticipate approximately 4-5 days of crane activity throughout the duration of the project. The crane will be positioned on Eliot Street and police details will be on site as needed to assist with vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.
  • The most impactful portion of the work will include the removal of the existing stone ballast material. To minimize impact on the campus community, this work will largely be completed on Saturday, June 3rd.

We will provide periodic updates throughout the duration of the project, however if you have any questions, comments, or concerns now or during the work, please contact Harvard Construction Mitigation at (617) 496-0857 or mitigation@csl-consulting.com.  Additional notices will also be shared to alert the campus to more impactful work.
