About this Project
Harvard University has hired a contractor to remove and replace the roof in the University-owned and occupied building at 8 Story Street. The project is scheduled to begin with the arrival of scaffolding on Monday, December 4th, 2023, with project completion currently scheduled for late April 2024.
Over the next several months, area residents and businesses can expect the presence of work crews, as well as construction equipment and activity between the project’s work hours, Monay through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and select Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. During these hours, construction activity will generate some noise due to deliveries, hammering, and the use of power tools.
The role of the Harvard Construction Mitigation team is to work with the contractor to anticipate any project-related issues that could potentially disrupt neighboring businesses and residents; and implement plans to avoid, minimize, or eliminate these impacts. We also work to keep everyone impacted by the project apprised of logistics, potential impacts, and progress throughout the duration of the work. In addition to notifications like this, we will also use signage, in-person visits, and email notifications to communicate with area businesses and residents. Projects updates will also be available on the Harvard Construction Mitigation website (construction.harvard.edu).
General Project Information:
- Work crews will mobilize on Monday, December 4, 2023.
- Scaffolding will be installed from the ground floor to the roof on the front elevation.
- Access to 8 Story Street and all area offices and business will be maintained throughout the project, though pedestrians will be asked to follow walking detours at times to ensure their safety during construction. Signs will be posted.
- On select Saturdays, a crane will be mobilized to Story Street to hoist materials to the roof. Prior notification will be distributed. Signage will be in place, as well as pedestrian detours. Metered parking spaces in front of 8 Story Street may be temporarily offline while the crane is on site.
