175 North Harvard Street Project Construction Impacts Update
The following is an overview of the work taking place at the 175 North Harvard Street construction site at the future location of the new Harvard University affiliate housing building at 100 South Campus Drive.
- Soil removal from the site continues.
- Concrete pours continue throughout the week. Because concrete pours cannot be
stopped mid-pour, some of these operations may occasionally go slightly later
than 6:00 p.m. The contractor will make every effort to minimize this. - Crews will be installing reinforcing steel to prepare for placing concrete for the
foundation mat slab in early April. - A mat slab pour is currently targeted for Tuesday, April 2, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00
p.m. - Truck traffic in and out of the site will remain steady during standard work hours.
Some trucks will be staged at the parking lot located at 201 Western Ave as
needed during busier times to ensure trucks are not staging on the roadways. - Wheel washing and street sweeping continues to ensure soil is not being tracked
through the streets. - Installation of below grade waterproofing work is in progress.
- The contractor is targeting a tower crane erection for Thursday, April 4, through
Saturday, April 6, during regular work hours. The base and footings for the tower
crane have been installed as part of the building foundation. - Please note that, due to some unforeseen conditions, a temporary road closure of
both lanes of South Campus Drive near the McCurdy Track may be necessary to
accommodate the installation of equipment needed to address these conditions.
The logistics and schedule for this work are still being reviewed, but it may begin as
soon as Wednesday, March 27, and could run through the following week. All work
and the closure will occur during normal working hours and will include signage to
redirect traffic. More information will be provided once it is available. - Construction has started on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at
the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building
already under construction behind it. - On the ART site, crews continue excavating soil and exporting the soil offsite.
- Sheet pile installation is complete, and the drill rig is scheduled to be moved offsite on
Wednesday, March 27, at 1:00 a.m. Due to the size of the equipment, the City of Boston requires
that it be moved during off hours. This should not be disruptive to the community. - A traffic change has been implemented on South Campus Drive to help improve safety and traffic
flow around the job site. Only construction vehicles are permitted to turn onto South Campus
Drive from North Harvard Street. All other vehicles will be directed to access South Campus Drive
from Western Ave. - The project’s regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Work on
Saturdays may be necessary as permitted by the City of Boston from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
