175 North Harvard Street Project Construction Impacts Update
• The contractor received its demolition permit from the City of Boston last week, allowing them to begin dismantling the building. The process of dismantling the building and removing debris, which started on Thursday, November 2, is expected to take approximately four weeks. Due to the nature of this work and the equipment needed, it is expected to generate some perceptible noise during regular work hours between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
• Work on Ivy Lane is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the week of November 6 after the pavers are reinstalled and concrete is replaced in each section of the sidewalk.
• Utility work along a section of South Campus drive requires a temporary diversion road, which will modify vehicular traffic routes and pedestrian crossings. As of Friday, November 3, South Campus Drive has been diverted, and this diversion will be in place for approximately two months.
• Once the building demolition and debris removal process is complete, neighbors can expect a steady stream of activity on site with utility work taking place.
• Project enabling activities will begin in late November and will continue through January followed by the anticipated start of building construction.
• Enabling activities will include some pile driving and vibrating sheet piles into the ground in preparation for building construction. These types of activities do generate noise and may also generate some perceptible vibrations.
• As mentioned in previous notices, the project has positioned dust, noise, and vibration monitors around the work site, and they are continually checked by third-party engineers to ensure construction activities remain within safe and acceptable levels. In addition, the contractor is working to minimize the noise impact of the project’s construction activities, including, where feasible, choosing construction techniques that produce less noise.
• Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Some work on Saturdays may be necessary as permitted by the City of Boston also from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. At this time, there are no plans for any before or after-hours activity on site
