he Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into fall 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations.
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in December.
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank
- Installation of piping tees and valves will be completed.
- Crews will begin backfilling and electric duct bank work.
- Final restoration is targeted for mid-December.
- A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.
- An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.
- During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.
- There will be work this Saturday, November 18th and no work the Friday after the holiday, November 24th.
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
- The ERC development team continues bulk excavation of the Residential/Hotel and Treehouse Conference Center sites.
- Trucks may begin lining up at 6:30AM however, work will not begin until 7AM.
- The Laboratory site has completed their bulk excavation operations.
- There will be work this Saturday, November 18th.
- The Laboratory site will be placing a large mat slab.
- An early start of 2:30AM is needed to accommodate this large pour.
- The Treehouse Conference Center site will be moving their truck wash station to its permanent location.
- The Laboratory site will be placing a large mat slab.
- The Residential/Hotel site plans to erect its second tower crane on November 25th & 26th.
- Extended work hours and an early start of 5AM are needed for this operation.
- Steel and concrete work at the Residential/Hotel and Conference Center mockups will be ongoing with intermediate steel deliveries on Rotterdam Street.
- The Residential/Hotel site has erected their first of two tower cranes, which is designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
- Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at the Residential/Hotel and Laboratory sites.
92 Seattle Street
- Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
- Work continues within the building under containment.
- Slab and soil removal work is ongoing.
- Ongoing preparation work for the first concrete pour to take place in November.
- Waterline work is underway on the Travis Street side of the building.
- Interior work will take place this Saturday starting at 7AM.
175 North Harvard Street
- Above grade building demolition has been completed.
- Abatement operations of the below grade foundation are ongoing.
- Increased noise is anticipated during the above ground foundation and slab on grade demolition.
- Demolition activities will continue through November.
- The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.
100 South Campus Drive
- South Campus Drive road diversion is in place and operational.
- During this enabling work a rainwater retention system will be installed.
- Crews are mobilizing for thermal pipe excavation and installation.
- Pile driving operations will begin Friday, November 17th, and continue until Wednesday, November 22nd generating noise[DB1] .
- Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.
210 North Harvard Street
- Landlord construction has been completed.
- Tenant buildout will continue into June 2024.
114 Western Avenue
- A solar installation project will begin on Monday, November 20th.
- Materials will begin arriving Friday, November 17, 2023, and hoisted to the roof starting Saturday, November 18th.
- This project will last approximately two months.
- Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
