Week of December 4, 2023

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into December 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations. Snow and ice plans are in place for the winter.
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.

Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in December.

Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Testing of the thermal piping has been completed.
  • Crews will be backfilling, installing electrical duct bank, and restoring the area through December.
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 2nd.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Bulk excavation operation at the Residential/Hotel site will be completed Friday, December 1st.
  • Intermodal soil removal operations have been completed at the Conference Center site.
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 2nd.
    • The Laboratory site will be placing their second mat slab starting at 5AM.
      • The lights will be turned on at 4:30AM.
      • This is a 2,000-yard placement.
    • The Residential/Hotel site plans to work within the site foundation starting at 7AM.
    • The Conference Center site will be excavating and lining the site foundation with soil.
  • Work is ongoing on the Hotel and Laboratory mockups.
  • The Laboratory site is planning for their third mat slab placement on December 16th.
    • A 2:30AM start is needed to support this operation.
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory sites.

92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Work under containment has been completed.
  • Waterline work is underway on the Travis Street side of the building.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are underway in preparation for a placement scheduled for December 11th.

175 North Harvard Street

  • Abatement of the site foundation has been completed.
  • Crews will begin removal of asphalt, sidewalk, and soil to grade the site down to the proper elevation.
    • Trucking operations will increase to support this work.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

100 South Campus Drive

  • Utility work on South Campus Drive has been completed.
    • The road will be repaved, and the diversion road will be closed by the end of the week.
  • Ongoing excavation and prefab fusion for thermal piping installation will occur.
  • Pile driving operations will continue.
  • Sheet vibrating operations will begin and continue through December. 
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.

210 North Harvard Street

  • Landlord construction has been completed.
    • Tenant buildout will continue into June 2024.
  • Railings will be installed on the entrance stairs and ramp Tuesday, December 5th. 

114 Western Avenue

  • Ongoing solar panel installation.
  • This project will last approximately two months.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
