Week of February 19, 2024

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will finish this winter and is being coordinated with University operations.  
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
 
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals later this month.
 
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Restoration of the construction area and preparation for paving is ongoing.
    • Kresge Way finish-course paving is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th.
    • Lighting, curb, and area restoration is ongoing.
    • Guard shack restoration and installation has been completed.
  • The shift to the former Kresge Way alignment is scheduled for the week of March 4th.
  • The site will be closed on Monday, February 19th, in observation of President’s Day.
  • National Grid will continue to work on North Harvard Street.
    • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times.
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Work is scheduled for this Saturday, February 17th, starting at 7AM. 
    • The Treehouse Conference Center will have crews working on the walls and core.
    • The Residential/Hotel site will have crews preparing for concrete placements.
    • The Laboratory site will have crews placing crushed stone.
  • A third tower crane is scheduled to be erected on February 24th and 25th.
    • A 6AM start and possible after-hours work will be needed for this operation.
  • Work is ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory mockups with a lane shift on Rotterdam Street for a lift and possible deliveries.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at all three sites.
  • More visible work is taking place on the sky deck and level two
  • Temporary over-head power is being installed on site across Trotting Avenue for the field office trailers eliminating more generators on site. 
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Drones will be in use weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
    • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
    • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled Wednesdays or Thursdays from 7AM to 9AM alternating weekly.
    • A drone flight is scheduled for Thursday, February 22nd from 7AM to 9AM.

92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Work interior to the building continues.
  • Demolition of the east side of the building will begin in early March.
  • Roofing work will continue with a crane periodically on site within the site fence. .
  • The site will be closed on Monday, February 19th, in observation of President’s Day. 

175 North Harvard Street & 100 South Campus Drive

  • South Campus Drive has been redirected to one way traffic from Western Avenue to North Harvard Street.
    • Vehicles will not be allowed to enter from the North Harvard Street entrance to South Campus Drive. 
  • Bulk excavation operations will continue.
  • Mockup installation is ongoing across the street.
  • Concrete operations will mobilize with mud mats being placed within the site foundation.
  • Deliveries are ongoing.
  • The site will be closed on Monday, February 19th, in observation of President’s Day.
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

114 Western Avenue

  • Solar panel installation has been completed.
  • Project team is awaiting inspection and Eversource switchover.

Athletics Projects
Replacement Gas Line Installation

A gas line installation within the Athletics Campus is ongoing along the walkway (parallel to North Harvard Street), along the backside of the Blodgett Pool, Lavietes Pavilion, Dillon Field House and stops near Bright Landry Hockey Arena. 

  • Fencing and work zones have been installed. Work zone set up will continue on the roadway adjacent and the lot near Lavietes Pavilion and the Dillon Field House.
  • This project will continue into April.
  • Phase 3 of the project has been completed.
  • Trench excavation continues in phases, work on Phase 4 will occur next week.
  • Crews will be welding and installing piping.
  • Backfilling and restoration will take place in sections where piping has been installed.
  • National Grid is scheduled to work on North Harvard Street.  Two-way traffic will be reduced to one lane with pedestrian sidewalk shifts.
  • The site will be closed on Monday, February 19th, in observation of President’s Day.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.

HUIT Conduit Installation

  • This work is part of a project to place conduit from Newell Boat House to Lavietes Pavilion.
  • Crews will continue to install conduit within the Dillon parking area.
  • Work will take place on Monday, February 19th.
