Week of December 11, 2023

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into fall 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations.  
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
 
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in December.
 
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Nitrogen layup will take place.
  • Crews will be backfilling, installing electrical duct bank, and restoring the area through December.
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 9th.

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Bulk excavation operations have been completed at all three sites.
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 9th starting at 7AM.
    • The Laboratory site will be doing carpentry work inside the site foundation.
    • The Residential/Hotel site will be installing rebar.
    • The Treehouse Conference Center site will be preparing for formwork installation.
  • Work is ongoing on the Hotel and Laboratory mockups.
  • A steel delivery is scheduled for the Conference Center mockup on December 12thThe Conference Center will have a mat slab concrete placement on December 8th.
  • The Residential/Hotel site will be placing their hotel core mat on December 14th.
    • An early start of 5AM is needed to support this operation with gates opening at 4:30AM.
  • The Laboratory site is planning for their third mat slab placement on December 16th.
    • A 2:30AM start is needed to support this operation.
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory sites.

92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Waterline work will be completed on the Travis Street side of the building Friday, December 8th.
  • Rebar operations are underway.
  • A pile cap placement is scheduled for December 14th.

175 North Harvard Street

  • Crews continue removal of asphalt, sidewalk, and soil to grade the site down to the proper elevation.
    • Trucking operations will increase to support this work.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

100 South Campus Drive

  • Utility work on South Campus Drive has been completed.
    • The road will be repaved, and the diversion road will be closed by the end of the week.
  • Prefab fusion for thermal piping installation continues with pressure testing scheduled this week followed by backfilling.
  • Pile driving operations have been completed.
  • Sheet vibrating operations will begin towards the end of December.   
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.

114 Western Avenue

  • Ongoing solar panel installation.
  • This project will last approximately two months.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
