Week of December 18, 2023

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into fall 2023 and is being coordinated with University operations.  
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
 
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in January.
 
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Nitrogen layup is ongoing. 
  • Crews will be backfilling, installing electrical duct bank, and restoring the area into January.
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 16th.

 
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Bulk excavation operations have been completed at all three sites.
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 16th starting at 2:30AM.
    • The Laboratory site will be placing a 4,500yard mat slab.
      • This requires an early start of 2:30AM with the lights turned on at 2AM.
      • Increased security guards and police details will be present to monitor truck traffic.
    • The Residential/Hotel site will be backfilling starting at 7AM.
    • The Treehouse Conference Center site will be doing site work.
  • Work is ongoing on the Hotel and Laboratory mockups.
  • The Treehouse Conference Center site will be placing mud mat on Tuesday, December 19th.
  • The Residential/Hotel site is planning for four placements over the next two weeks.
    • These placements will start during normal work hours.
    • Finishing work may continue past normal operation hours.
  • A large generator has been installed
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory sites.

 
92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Waterline tie-in work has been completed on the Travis Street side of the building.
  • There is a concrete placement scheduled for Thursday, December 21st.
  • A sewer line tie in will take place the week of December 25th.

 
175 North Harvard Street

  • Hauling operations will be completed by mid-week.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

 
100 South Campus Drive

  • Utility work on South Campus Drive has been completed.
    • Crews have paved and switched back to the original South Campus Drive alignment.
  • Crews will backfill following the pressure testing with targeted completion December 23rd.
  • Sheet vibrating operations have begun.
    • Increased noise and vibration are anticipated during this month-long operation.   
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.

 
114 Western Avenue

  • Ongoing solar panel installation.
  • This project will last approximately two months.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
