Week of January 29, 2024

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will finish this winter and is being coordinated with University operations.  
 
Kresge Way Temporary Relocation
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.
 
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in February 2024.
 
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Restoration of construction area is ongoing.
    • Crews are installing power and data cables to the guard shack.
    • Crews are currently scheduled to repave Kresge Way, February 7th  to 9th, weather permitting.
  • Ongoing reinstallation of lighting and curbs.
  • A shift to the original Kresge Way alignment will occur later in February, weather permitting.
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  

 
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • There will be work this Saturday, January 27th, starting at 7AM. 
    • The Treehouse Conference Center will have crews working on foundation formwork.
    • The Residential/Hotel site will have crews working on the concrete placement preparation and the high-rise core walls.
  • Work is ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center and Laboratory mockups.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at all three sites.
  • More visible work is taking place on the sky deck and level two.
  • A large generator has been installed and will be operating 24 hours until installation of temporary power is completed.
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.

 
92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Work interior to the building continues.
  • Mason will be mobilizing and setting up and building lentils.
  • Supports for roof drains will be installed.
  • Work on the gas line meters.
  • Temp electric will be installed.

                                                                       
175 North Harvard Street & 100 South Campus Drive

  • Bulk excavation operations will continue. 
  • Deliveries are ongoing.
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

 
114 Western Avenue

  • Solar panel installation has been completed.
  • Project team is awaiting inspection and Eversource switchover.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.

Replacement Gas Line Installation at Athletics
A gas line installation within the Athletics Campus is ongoing along the walkway (parallel to N. Harvard St), along the backside of the Blodgett Pool, Lavietes Pavilion, Dillon Field House and stops near Bright Landry Hockey Arena. 

  • Fencing and work zones have been installed in front of Blodgett Pool area. Work zone set up will continue on the roadway adjacent to Lavietes Pavilion and the Dillon Field House.
  • This project will continue into April.
  • Trench excavation continues in phases, working on phase 2 next week.
  • Crews will be welding and installing piping.
  • Backfilling and restoration will take place in sections where piping has been installed.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
