The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is finishing up on Kresge Way and is being coordinated with University operations.
As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. The original entrance and drive alignment is back in place off Western Avenue.
Western Avenue Utility Crossing
The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration is underway.
Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank
- Restoration of the construction area continues.
- Landscaping crews will be installing irrigation, sod and trees.
- The bypass road will continue to be removed.
- If weather permits, sidewalk replacement work on Western Avenue in front of HBS will continue with pedestrians shifting to the ERC sidewalk.
- During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (at times may extend to 6 p.m.), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.
Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)
- Work is scheduled for this Saturday, April 13 starting at 7 a.m.
- The Treehouse Conference Center will have crews prepping for concrete placements and core work.
- The Residential/Hotel site will have crews preparing for concrete placements and doing steel installation.
- Punchlist work and adjustments are ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory mockups with an occasional lane shift on Rotterdam Street for use of a lift and possible deliveries.
- A fourth tower crane is assembled and will start to install structural steel the week of April 16 on the east lab building.
- Structural steel continues to be delivered, installed, and is rising to the third level of the west lab building using the tower crane.
- Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing.
- The Treehouse conference center cores and utility work is underway.
- Concrete will begin to be placed for the Treehouse cores on Tuesday, April 16 and will continue with one placement weekly.
- Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing may take place after 6 a.m.
- Visible work is taking place on level six of the high rise and midrise residential buildings.
- Steel installation deliveries and installation will continue at the hotel.
- Three tower cranes are operating on site and are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
- Eversource is expected to connect temporary power to the Treehouse, which may involve a vacuum truck on Western Avenue.
- Drones will be in use weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
- Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
- Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled Wednesdays or Thursdays alternating weekly.
- A drone flight will take place on Thursday, April 18 if weather allows from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
92 Seattle Street
- Interior drywall work will take place on Saturday, April 13.
- Roofing work will continue with intermittent use of a lift in the adjacent bus lot.
- Curtainwall installation will take place.
- Interior work continues.
175 North Harvard Street & 100 South Campus Drive
Construction has begun on the new American Repertory Theater (ART), which will be located at the front of the 175 North Harvard parcel with the new Harvard University affiliate housing building already under construction behind it.
- Utility work on Ivy Lane will begin on Tuesday, April 16 and continue for the next month. One lane of traffic will be maintained during work hours. The road will be plated after hours with two lanes of traffic restored.
- A tower crane is operating on site. At the end of each shift, the crane will be left in weathervane mode with safety lighting turned inward.
- South Campus Drive has been redirected to one way traffic from Western Avenue to North Harvard Street.
- Vehicles will not be allowed to enter from the North Harvard Street entrance to South Campus Drive.
- Work will begin on the first residential elevator core tower.
- Bracing will also begin to be removed.
- Utility work will take place inside the site.
- ART project bulk excavation operations will continue.
- Mockup framing and masonry work is underway across the street from the site.
- Concrete operations are underway within the site foundation.
- Because concrete pours cannot be stopped mid-pour, some of these operations may occasionally go slightly later than 6:00 p.m. The contractor will make every effort to minimize this.
- Wheel washing and street sweeping continues.
- Deliveries are ongoing.
- Site work hours are 7a.m.-4 p.m.
- The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.
Athletics Projects
Replacement Gas Line Installation
A gas line installation within the Athletics Campus is finishing near the Blodgett Pool, Lavietes Pavilion, Dillon Field House and stops near Bright Landry Hockey Arena.
- Minor punch-list work and restoration of Phase 4 work continues.
- General work hours are 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
210 North Harvard Street
- Permanent power feeds will be connected.
- Starting next week a lift will be on the sidewalk during a masonry repair activity.
108 Holton Street
Crews will be preparing to demolition this building during this three-month project.
- Abatement work will take place for three weeks on the roof.
- Utility work will take place in the roadway necessitating a sidewalk and lane shift.
