Week of December 25, 2023 & January 1, 2024

The Western Avenue utility crossing roadway work is finalized and is extending onto Kresge Way. This work will continue into early 2024 and is being coordinated with University operations.  

Snow and ice removal plans are in place for all Allston projects.

Kresge Way Temporary Relocation

As part of Harvard’s infrastructure improvements in Allston, the University has extended thermal piping and electrical/telecommunications duct banks from the District Energy Facility across Western Avenue to Kresge Way, the main driveway into the HBS campus. An interim drive further west off Western Avenue has replaced the original drive.

Western Avenue Utility Crossing

The utility crossing at Western Avenue is complete. Final restoration will be coordinated with the completion of the Kresge Way thermals in early 2024.

Kresge Way and Extension of Thermal Pipes and Electrical Duct Bank

  • Crews will be backfilling and removing shoring.
  • Preparation for setting the guard shack the first week of January will be ongoing.
  • Preparation will begin in January to restore Kresge Way.
  • A section of Kresge Way has shifted west away from the Soldier’s Field Garage.  
  • An interim temporary parking attendant’s booth on the shifted section of Kresge Way is operational.  
  • During project hours, Monday through Friday from 7AM to 3PM (at times may extend to 6PM), the work will generate noise due to the presence of work crews and the use of construction equipment, including a vacuum truck.  

Enterprise Research Campus (ERC)

  • Bulk excavation operations have been completed at all three sites.
  • There will be work this Saturday, December 23rd.
    • Crews will be doing some site work and prep in the foundation area starting at 7AM.
  • Work is ongoing on the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center and Laboratory mockups.
  • A crane and truck will periodically be in the lane on Rotterdam Street adjacent to the mockup lot site.
  • The Residential/Hotel site is planning for four placements over the next two weeks.
    • These placements will start during normal work hours.
    • Finishing work may continue past normal operation hours.
  • A large generator has been installed and will be operating 24 hours.
  • The Residential/Hotel site has erected their two tower cranes, which are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind when not operational.
  • Concrete and rebar operations are ongoing at the Residential/Hotel, Conference Center, and Laboratory sites.

92 Seattle Street

  • Street signage is in place to help prevent construction vehicles from cutting through the Allston neighborhood.
  • Occasional concrete placements will occur.
  • A sewer-line tie in within the adjacent bus lot will start the week of December 25th.  The travel lane and fuel station will not be available.
  • Sewer line work will continue in two spaces within the bus lot the week of January 1st with the lane and fuel station available.

175 North Harvard Street

  • Hauling operations will be completed by mid-week.
  • The MBTA bus stop in front of the building has been relocated closer to South Campus Drive.  

100 South Campus Drive

  • Utility work on South Campus Drive has been completed.
    • Crews have paved and switched back to the original South Campus Drive alignment.
  • Crews will backfill following the pressure testing with targeted completion December 23rd.
  • Sheet vibrating operations continue.
    • Increased noise and vibration are anticipated during this month-long operation.    
  • Bulk excavation and its trucking will begin in the coming weeks.
  • Site work hours are 7AM-4PM.

114 Western Avenue

  • Ongoing solar panel installation.
  • This project will last approximately two months.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.

Athletics

A gas line installation within the Athletics Campus is targeted to begin the first week of January and continue for the winter along the walkway (parallel to N. Harvard St), along the backside of the Blodgett Pool, Lavietes Pavilion, Dillon Field House and stops near Bright Landry Hockey Arena. 

  • Fencing and work zones will be set up.
  • This project will last approximately four months.
  • Work hours are 7AM-3:30PM.
